Bahà’í

The Bahá’í movement is the youngest of the world’s independent religions. It is based on the teachings of its Founder, Bahá’u’lláh, who emerged in the mid-19th century in what was then Persia, now Iran.

Bahá’í Community

The first known connection between the Bahá’í Faith and Ireland dates from 1848 when a doctor of Irish background treated the Báb- the Herald of the Bahá'í Faith in His prison cell in Tabriz, Iran.

The 1950′s and 1960′s witnessed a steady flow of new Irish Bahá’ís with more dynamic growth experienced in the early 1970′s. The first national administrative body for Bahá’ís was established in 1972.

Today the Bahá’í community in Ireland comprises people of many different backgrounds from all around the country, including a welcome sprinkling of people who have come from overseas to make their home in Ireland.

The Bahá’í community is one of learning and action, free from any sense of superiority or claim to exclusive understanding of truth. It is a community that strives to cultivate hope for the future of humanity, to foster purposeful effort, and to celebrate the endeavours of all those in the world who work to promote unity and alleviate human suffering.

Words of Faith

The Bahá’í Faith is an independent world religion that emphasises universal peace, the elimination of prejudice, and the unity of all people.

The Founder of the Bahá’í Faith, Bahá’u’lláh, teaches that all religions come from one God and humanity is one family.

Throughout history, God has sent to humanity, according to the needs of the time, a series of Divine Educators, known as Manifestations of God. Their distinct social and spiritual teachings have guided humanity’s efforts to advance civilisation.
